This policy explains how GroupBlock handles your data. Spoiler: we don't collect any.
Last updated: March 2026GroupBlock ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that enables users to block websites by category for the purposes of parental control and productivity. This Privacy Policy describes how the Extension handles information.
By installing or using GroupBlock, you agree to the terms described in this policy.
GroupBlock does not collect, store, transmit, or process any of the following:
The Extension stores the following data exclusively on your local device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API:
This data never leaves your browser. It is not synced to any cloud service, account, or remote server.
GroupBlock requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is necessary for the Extension to function:
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| storage | To save your settings (enabled categories, schedule, password hash) locally on your device. |
| declarativeNetRequest | To block network requests to domains in your active categories. |
| declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess | Required by Chrome for declarativeNetRequest to operate across all URLs. |
| alarms | To enable scheduled blocking — activating and deactivating blocks at specified hours. |
| host_permissions (<all_urls>) | Required for the blocking engine to intercept requests to any domain you configure. |
GroupBlock does not share any data with third parties because it does not collect any data in the first place. The Extension has no partnerships, advertising integrations, or analytics services.
No third-party SDKs, libraries, or services are loaded at runtime. All code runs entirely within your browser, offline.
GroupBlock is designed as a parental control tool and may be used to protect children online. The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children or adults. No personal data is collected from any user regardless of age.
Because GroupBlock stores all data locally and makes no network requests, there is no risk of data interception in transit or server-side breaches. Your password, if set, is stored only as a SHA-256 cryptographic hash — it cannot be reversed or recovered.
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Extension after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about GroupBlock, you can reach the developer via the Chrome Web Store listing page.
